Analogy between the universe (the macrocosm) and a human being (the microcosm)
April 13th 2025
Initiatic Science has always emphasized the analogy between the universe, the macrocosm, and a human being, the microcosm. Imagine someone who knows absolutely nothing about anatomy, and has no idea how a human being is constructed. They would wonder, ‘How does all this come together to make a creature that walks, breathes, eats and expresses thoughts and feelings?’ You would have to explain that hidden beneath the skin they see, are flesh, organs, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and so on, all held together by a framework of bones.
Well, on a gigantic scale, the same is true for the universe itself. The universe is a body, the body of God, and our own physical body is created in its image. Just as our body is built on the framework of a skeleton, without which it would collapse, so too is the universe supported by a framework that keeps everything in equilibrium, from the galaxies to the minutest particles of matter of which atoms are made. It is this framework that makes life possible.*
