Lower nature turns us into slaves

Whenever someone gives in to a base desire, they shackle themselves and become a slave; this is why we find so many slaves on earth. Even if human beings appear to be free, the truth is that inwardly, they faithfully obey a master: their lower nature, which exploits them mercilessly. In order to justify themselves they say, ‘I couldn’t help myself’, without thinking that from the moment they utter this phrase, it is precisely because they are already enslaved, there is someone else inside who has taken control and who is holding tightly to the reins.
Someone who is free never says, ‘I couldn’t help myself’, because these are words of capitulation, a calling card on which is written, ‘I am weak, I am nothing.’ ‘How can that be? On my card it says that I am the president of this, the director of that, inspector of such and such’ Ah? Perhaps, but an Initiate reads something completely different.
