The four categories of knowledge

According to an Arabic proverb, there are four categories of human beings. The first category is made up of those who are so mentally limited that they do not know that they do not know. Nothing can be done for such people – leave them be. In the second category are those who know that they do not know; they are sincere and full of good will – teach them. The third category is made up of those who are asleep, they do not know that they know – wake them up. And in the fourth category are those few, very rare beings who know that they know. These are the sages and the initiates, and the proverb says, ‘Follow them!’
